ABOUT US
The Latvian Cultural Centre is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to preserving, maintaining, developing, and promoting Latvian culture in Great Britain and worldwide.
Our projects have received support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Latvia, the Embassy of Latvia in the United Kingdom, the Society Integration Fund of the Republic of Latvia, the World Association of Free Latvians, the National Lottery Community Fund, Daugavas Vanagi, the Birmingham City Council, and numerous private supporters.
Our core activities include theatre and performing arts, promotion of the Latvian language and literature, music and dance, visual arts, educational programs for all ages and interests, social activities (such as political clubs, opinion exchanges, surveys, consultations, and social support), traditional Latvian sports (such as novuss and zolīte), as well as social communication and broadcasting.
Over the past six years, the Latvian Cultural Centre has achieved significant milestones, including the establishment of the Birmingham Little Theatre, the London Theatre "Trepes", the Birmingham Latvian Choir, the British Novus Federation, and the World Association of Latvian Amateur Theatres (PLATS). We consistently support other creative organizations and individuals in Great Britain and around the globe. Our efforts have also revitalized the Political Discussion Club and the Birmingham Novus Club through regular events, and we have instituted annual traditions such as Poetry Day and the International Theatre Festival in Birmingham. Furthermore, we organize master classes and practical workshops, while actively participating in and supporting various other cultural initiatives and activities.
The director of the Latvian Cultural Centre is Ingmārs Čaklais.
We invite passionate individuals eager to contribute creatively, champion their ideas, and manage dynamic projects to join us. We encourage everyone to engage with, enjoy, and support our vibrant cultural community!
